We're all project managers - These days many employees - from managers to operations staff - are performing the function of a Project Manager. Many people are allocated tasks that clearly fill the formal definition of a ‘project’. These tasks may be small or complex, but none of these people are formally entitled ‘Project Manager’.

Even Small Projects Need Effective Management - As already pointed out, projects can be very small scale, from making an administrative change within a department, to something more complex such as setting up a new call center or organizing sales data to analyze business performance. However, even small projects may involve a considerable number of factors.

A project is a self-contained task, undertaken to achieve a specific objective. It may have one specified requirement or a set of requirements, it may be able to be completed by one person, or it may require a team of people, but it will have a definite start and finish date. This definition highlights the fact that many people are currently working as informal ‘Project Managers’.
